MATINU MA MPIMPA highlights the soul of the rites and rhythms of our grandfathers and ancestors. the "NGONGUI" and "MUKWITI" resonate constanly in the depths of our souls and bodies. We, who grew up in "MBONGI" (Place where wise men and initiates meet), regularly listen to the "NGANAS" (Proverbs) of the various ancestral lineage who have educated and showed us the way to reach widsom.
The MATINU MA MPIMPA group, composed of several artists, is in continuous research of the new sounds and expressions inspired by different congolese traditions. As a result of this spirit of research, the group performance represents a real diversity of sounds and colors from different regions of Congo. Its work is an orginal fusion of traditional rhythms on the one hand and a mixing of traditional and ritual dances on the other hand, all with some influence of the contemporary environment.
Under the guidance of is Artistic Director Edgar P.M. KOKO, and his talented ethnical instruments players, the artists of MATINU MA MPIMPA, dance, sing and play various sounds of congolese ethnic instruments. Their invasion of stage drives you in the enssence of their mythical rhythms, leaving you between a traditional and a modern world.
Enriched by the songs and different sounds of the congolese ethnical instrument and NGOMA, these rhythms and dances make MATINU MA MPIMPA an outstanding group beyond the common. Coming from different ethnic background, the members of MATINU MA MPIMPA also naturally contribute to the diversity of ethnic groups. More than fourty five ethnic groups live in the Congo and each of them has its own culture, music, rhythms, and dances.
MATINU MA MPIMPA is like a group of ballet. This show "The Night Dance Ritual", created in 2017, is "a staging of an ancient ritual that drives away the evil spirits that distrub the daily peace in our villages in the Republic of Congo". Throughout this show that turns into a trip, MATINU MA MPIMPA relaxes and brings together all the travelers in a Congolese unique environment of mystic, ryhthmic and music. Travelers discover different sounds, rhythms, dances and colors from ten (10) departments of the republic of congon : Sangha, likouala, Cuvette, Cuvette Ouest, Plateau, Pool, Bouenza, Lekoumou, Niari and kouilou.
